West Pittwater Rural Fire Brigade

Fire Fighting

The hot dry conditions which can set off wildfires prevail between September and March. These fires can develop very quickly and may have devastating consequences. As part of the RFS we may be called on to fight bushfires of all types and sizes, across the state. However, being surrounded by bush with the potential to experience wildfire, obviously we are particularly interested in fighting fires near home.

As we are remote from the services of the New South Wales Fire Brigades, we also respond to fires in houses and boat fires (the RFS attends more house fires than bush fires). We have a number of members who are CABA (Compressed Air Breathing Apparatus) trained and are looking to upskill more of our brigade to this level so they can safely go into burning structures for rescue and suppression of structure fires.
